As a middle-school student in the 1980s, Lee Buono stayed after school one day to remove the brain and spinal cord(脊髓) from a frog. He did such a good job with the frog that his science teacher told him he might be a doctor some day.
That is exactly what Buono did. Years later, a patient with a tumor (肿瘤) came to see Buono. The tumor was benign (良性的), but it interfered with the patient's speech. “He could get some words out,” Buono recalls. “But it was hard to understand them.”
“I was talking to his wife, and I told his family I would try to help him,” he continues. “They started asking me about myself.” They asked Buono who had inspired him to become a doctor, and he told them about his old teacher, Al Siedlecki, back at
The operation was a success. The patient could speak freely again. He was excited and happy and crying and wanted to just hug Buono. “Call your teacher,” the patient said. “Make sure you thank him.”
So Buono did. “I picked the phone up and heard, ‘Hey, it's Lee Buono,’” Siedlecki says to his former student. “Lee, what's going on? I haven't heard from you since you graduated,” he said.
“I want to thank you,” Buono replied.
“I was very surprised,” Siedlecki says. “I said, ‘Of all the people in your entire career, you want to thank me?’ Actually it was the same feeling I had when... when my kids were born. I started to cry. It made me feel really important that I had that influence on you.”
Lately, Siedlecki admits, “I am almost afraid to say that I'm a teacher to some people.” “Not any more,” he tells Buono, “because you called me. I'm a teacher, and I'm going to help as many people as I can to find their passion, too.”
56.What made Buono become a doctor?

C.He was crying due to the pain of his illness.
D.He hoped Buono would thank his teacher.
58.Why did Buono's teacher cry when Buono called him?
A.He was moved by Buono's thanks.
B.His children were born at that time.

A friend asks you to be a volunteer. Your husband asks you to glance over an e-mail he is writing to his boss. You say you'd love to. Really! But... “I don' t have time.”
It seems plausible(有道理的). We're all busy these days, right? But there are reasons not to use these four words, at least with yourself.
Here's the big one: it is not true. You tell yourself “I don't have time” to exercise, but we all have 168 hours a week. If someone offered to pay you $100,000 a week to go to the gym for 5 of those 168 hours, you would probably find the time to do it. Since that isn't going to happen, this is a more accurate statement:“It's not a priority(优先处理的事).”
There are a million things we could be doing with our time; some are priorities and some are not, even if it's wrong to say so. Try it. “I'm not going to read to you tonight, sweetie, because it's not a priority. Daddy's priority is to check his e-mails.”
Using the words “I don't have time” keeps us from admitting to the fact that how we spend our time is a choice. It puts the responsibility for our lives on someone else: a boss, a client or a family member.
Better to be truthful:“I have another volunteer job on which I am focusing my energy right now. It is the cause that is most important to me.” Or, to your husband “I wish you had mentioned this earlier. Right now, my priority is to get our children dressed and out of the door for school. I will be available around lunch time if you would like talk.”
60.What does the word “it” in the third paragraph refer to?
A.Saying “I don't have time.”
B.Saying “We are all busy today.”
C.Checking your husband's e-mail.
D.Telling your friend you won't volunteer.
61.From the third paragraph we can learn that ________.
A.it is enough to exercise for five hours a week
B.we are too busy to exercise these days
C.we can earn $100,000 a week by exercising
D.we don't often regard exercise as priority
62.Which would be the best answer if your friend asks you to be a volunteer?
A.I have to check my e-mails first.
B.I already have a volunteer job that I enjoy.
C.I cannot find any time to do it.
D.I have a million things to do.
63.What is the text mainly about?
A.How to be responsible for our lives.
B.How to get time to do exercise.
C.How to say no to others without saying “I don't have time.”
D.How we should spend our time reasonably these days.

Walking is good for people. In his book, The Lost Art of Walking, Geoff Nicholoson praises the benefits of walking and studies how and why we walk. Besides providing physical, psychological and social benefits, this simple, free activity can change your life, he suggests. From a health perspective(角度), walking is the key to managing weight, controlling blood pressure and reducing the risk of a stroke, breast cancer, diabetes and many other health problems. A daily walk lengthens your life, decreases the risk of depression(沮丧) and improves your mood and sense of well-being. According to Beth Israel Medical Centre, walking lowers total cholesterol(胆固醇) and increases high-density, lipoproteins, or the “good cholesterol”.
From a psychological viewpoint, walking offers an opportunity to clear one's thoughts, solve problems and reduce stress. If you set a rhythm that is relaxing and peaceful, walking can also become a form of meditation(沉思). Walking regularly with someone else enables a friendship to blossom as the pair of you exercise. My husband and I enjoy our regular walk “dates” and use the time to discuss issues without being bothered.
Also, the best way to explore some of the world's great cities—such as New York, London, Paris and Rome—is on foot. Walking stimulates(刺激) the senses and lets you enjoy a rich engagement with life around you. According to Nicholson, the famous poet, William Wordsworth, walked the same distance as several times around the world in his lifetime. Wordsworth reputedly delighted in the simple truth that “going for a walk is an invitation for surprise”. Here are some tips to get going:
●Get a walking friend and try to meet each week at a set time.
●Get a dog; then you will have a constant walking companion.
●Choose a place that is attractive and beautiful but accessible.
●Start with a slow walk, then increase the pace and distance.
●Include some hills and stairs.
●Use an umbrella if it rains: the worst thing that can happen is that you get wet!

A.makes your life interesting
B.makes your life exciting

65.What can we learn from the second paragraph about walking?
A.It can make people forget things.
B.It can improve friendship.
C.It bothers people when dating.

A.getting a dog for a walk can please your friend
B.Wordsworth traveled around the world on foot several times
C.people must take an umbrella when walking
D.it is better to walk when visiting the world's great cities
67.What is the text mainly about?

B.How to reduce stress by walking.
C.Why walking can help one lose weight.
D.Why walking can reduce the risk of disease.

Since his first visit in 1970 to Churchill, Canada's polar bear hub(中心) for tourists and scientists alike, the ice has progressively melted earlier and frozen later. Without ice floes(浮水), the bears have no platform from which to hunt their meal of choice — the ringed seal. Larger bears can catch the occasional walrus(海象)on land, but the entire population cannot get by without seals.
The most crucial feeding time for the bears is between early April and July, when the ringed seals are young, unaware and easier to catch. Bears gain up to 70% of their yearly energy during this period, so it can be deadly when it is cut short by three weeks,
“When they're starving, they go searching for an alternate food source, and that's mainly going to be human settlements,” Stirling said. The majority of these hostile (敌对的)interactions happen in Churchill, where a polar bear jail has been set up to hold aggressive bears.
Stirling said, “

How to Help Your Pet Cope
with the Loss of Another Pet
Coping with the death of a beloved pet is very difficult for all of us. 71 We owe our pets all the support and love we can offer in their time of need; haven't they been there to support and love us? Below are some tips for helping your pet to cope with the loss of another:
1.Show loving attention
72 This is the most important step you can take to help your sad pet cope with another pet's death. Spend more time with your pet. If the furry friend is on his or her own, you should sit down with him or her and stroke(抚摸)him or her, or take him or her to where you are sitting and encourage him or her to stay.
2. 73
Pets read and often adopt your mood. This is true: when you are sad, your pet knows it, and your sadness can affect his or her mood. This is not to suggest that you try to avoid your own natural grieving process. Grieving is a part of healing, after all. But when you talk to your surviving pet, be as cheerful as possible. 74
3. Keep your pet's routine
You might feel it is necessary to change your pet's routine, especially if your pet is eating less and, sadly, doesn't seem to be very energetic. But try not to shake up your routine too suddenly at this time, because the normal routine already isn't what it used to be. 75 You should also still make yourself available to your pet at roughly the same time of day. Later, you will discover that, just as naturally, he or she will overcome that grieving by your side.
A.Get another pet
B.Talk in a cheerful way
C.Now, more than ever, he needs to feel loved by you.
D.You can think about some new activities that your pet may enjoy.
E.You should still provide food and water at the same time, and put in the same place as before.
F.But we often forget that the struggle is also difficult for a pet that has lost a companion.
G.You are so central to your pet's life that this gesture alone can bring your pet comfort.

I still clearly remember a first time I went to school. It was a sunny morning but my dad drove me to school. He left me at the gate. A kind teacher helped me found my new classroom. Sit in the classroom, I realized that I was the only girl wearing a shirt and pants, while that all the others were in dresses. I looked just like all the boy in the class, especially with my shortly hair. They looked at me as if I were a strange creature from another planet and which made me feel very embarrassing. After school I asked my mum buy me a dress immediately.
